Building
The office building is located in the former machine pump building of the Haarlemmerweg Pumping Station and dates from 1899. The building has a Dutch classicist architectural style. The brick battlements on top of the tower are striking, reminiscent of a medieval castle or city gate. The long, narrow arched windows with natural stone frames are also typical of the building, as are the vertical lines and pilasters that emphasize its height.
The entire building consists of four interconnected halls. The left hall served as a workshop and warehouse, the two middle halls housed the pumps, and the right hall was the boiler room. Until its closure in 1996, the machines pumped clean drinking water from the reservoirs into the city. One of the halls now houses the popular Café Restaurant Amsterdam.
