Selling or renting out your home? Here's how to make sure it's winter-proof and ready for viewings.
Autumn is now well underway and winter is approaching. During this colder period, we still want to welcome potential buyers in the most pleasant way possible and ensure that they can experience your home in the right way. In addition, it is important to prevent frost and water damage; after all, prevention is better than cure.
We would like to share a few tips to help you get your home ready for sale in the fall and winter months, especially if it is vacant.
Inside:
- Ensure a pleasant temperature in the home (around 18–19°C). This is comfortable for viewers and also helps prevent moisture.
- Create sufficient lighting in all rooms so that the home looks warm and inviting.
- Keep mail and personal items out of sight for a tidy impression.
- Ensure a fresh, neutral scent and air the home regularly; viewers are sensitive to moisture and musty odors.
- If necessary, have the central heating system serviced annually.
- If you have a fireplace, have the chimney swept in good time.
Outside:
- Remove leaves from gutters to prevent clogging of gutters and rainwater drainage.
- Clear away fallen leaves in the garden for a neat appearance.
- Remove moss and green deposits from paths and terraces; this not only looks better, but is also better for maintenance.
- Location doormat at garden and patio doors to prevent dirt from entering.
- Add some atmosphere with winter plants, pumpkins, or other seasonal decorations on your balcony, patio, or in the garden.
- Turn off outdoor taps, drain the pipes, and prevent frozen water pipes.
These simple steps will keep your home comfortable, well-maintained, and attractive even during the coldest months of the year.
