Recht Boomssloot dates back as much as five centuries. The canal was named after the 16th century shipbuilder and Mayor Cornelis Pieterszoon Boom. Around 1530, Boom, who himself lived at Recht Boomssloot 1-5, commissioned the broadening of two gullies, Recht Boomssloot and Krom Boomssloot, to create canals connecting his wharf to Het IJ.
The apartment is steeped in history, once it was an old steam-powered diamond cutting factory, this iconic building is listed as national heritage site, it was designed by the Architect C.A. Bombach in 1889, who is well known for also creating the iconic Artis Zoo and the Hollandse Schouwburg.
