George Ohm no. 1 III
Our office assists with the sale of a diverse range of properties. As a real estate agent, this variety is very challenging and contributes to the overall understanding of the housing market in Amsterdam. On behalf of our professional client, I have had the opportunity to sell many old rental properties in the area. The potential and practical layout of these properties capture the imagination. The neighborhood’s dynamics are very pleasant, and the (sports) facilities are excellent. On and around the Christiaan Huygensplein, the Middenweg, and the Hogeweg, you will find a variety of shops, specialty stores, and delicatessens. Additionally, there are many good restaurants and cozy cafés in the area. The apartment at Ohmstraat 1 III that we are selling is a well-laid-out apartment located in the highly sought-after and green neighborhood of De Watergraafsmeer. The property has great potential and a lovely southeast-facing garden. If you are interested, I warmly invite you to come and have a look. I will be happy to tell you more about the apartment then. Hope to see you soon!
Architecture
The apartment is situated in a building block constructed in the 1950s. The post-war architectural style is characterized by functional, business-like, and efficient construction. This is evident in the rectangular shape of the building and its nearly cubical layout. This results in the apartment having a very practical layout. Compared to the 1930s architectural style, the building on Ohmstraat, with the exception of a few facade stones, lacks facade decorations. The buildings are designed in a simple and unadorned manner, which was typical of that period. The simplistic architectural style is recognizable not only on the exterior but also in the interior design, including the staircase, storage rooms, and the apartment layout. Everything is designed in a straightforward manner to optimize the use of space. Architects J. van Schaik and P. Zanstra are the founders of the design of the building block on Ohmstraat. Architect Zanstra gained particular fame for his design of studio apartments. The architects Zanstra, Giesen, and Sijmons were members of the Groep ’32, a group heavily inspired by the works of Le Corbusier. The group was considered modernist. In 1954, Zanstra continued independently, drawing inspiration from his earlier works. This is evident in the business-like architecture, material choices, and window layout. The building symbolizes an architectural journey back to the 1950s, the period when it was built.
Living and cooking
The living room is situated at the rear of the apartment, with a French door that opens onto the balcony of approximately 5 m². The large windows and favorable sun exposure provide plenty of light and ambiance. The enclosed kitchen is located parallel to the living room. Like the living room, the French door in the kitchen also opens onto the balcony. The guest toilet is accessible via the hallway. In the basement, there is a separate storage room of approximately 11 m².
Sleeping and bathing
The apartment has a total of three bedrooms. Two of them are situated at the quiet, traffic-free front side, and one is by the balcony. The bathroom is located in the middle of the apartment and is nearly square in shape. This layout is ideal for creating a modern bathroom during a thorough renovation.
The outdoor space
Enjoying the sun outside is perfect here. The balcony faces the sunny southeast and is accessible from the kitchen, bedroom, and living room. It’s a wonderful spot to enjoy the sunshine. The balcony is approximately 5 m² in size. A tranquil oasis in a family-friendly Amsterdam neighborhood, close to the vibrancy of the city.
