Tessa wins the client’s trust with her expertise

‘Until they talk to me, and I show them my expertise, the client often doesn’t expect me to have ten years of experience,’ says Tessa, who sees rental showings as kind of like job interviews. ‘I’ve developed a special radar for tenants; I can pick up on something that’s just a bit off, so I wouldn’t recommend them to my client, the landlord.’

After secondary school, she went on a Schoevers Office Management course, did an internship at a real estate agency, and then earned her real estate diploma at the Academy for Real Estate in Amsterdam. Although Tessa started at the bottom of the ladder at 17, she continues to work her way up. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Project Development at the Amsterdam School of Real Estate. ‘I want to be at the highest level in real estate, so I can give the client the best advice.’

Her own home is very important to her, and she loves where she currently lives, on the Zuid-As. Apart from the architecture and the non-Dutch feeling of the high-rises in the area, Tessa also enjoys all the amenities in her apartment block. ‘There’s a gym, a swimming pool, a spa, a reception area with concierge who signs for my packages. After a hard day’s work, I come back to a home that feels like a hotel.’

Her work takes her mainly to Amsterdam Zuid, but in her spare time, Tessa and her friends prefer ‘brown cafés’ like ’t Loosje in the Red Light District. ‘I like to be where the true Amsterdammers are.’
